Leemore Dafny is the Bruce V. Rauner Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School and the Harvard Kennedy School, where she teaches courses on health care strategy and policy. She is a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research and serves on the Panel of Health Advisers to the Congressional Budget Office.
Dafny’s research focuses on competitive interactions between payers and providers of health care services, with an emphasis on antitrust, competitive strategy, and public policy. She also has an active research agenda on competition in pharmaceutical markets. Dafny has published in academic journals such as The American Economic Review and The New England Journal of Medicine, and her findings have been featured in popular media such as The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. She serves on the editorial boards of several academic journals and advisory boards for several nonprofit organizations.
In 2012–2013, Dafny was the Deputy Director for Health Care and Antitrust at the FTC’s Bureau of Economics, overseeing a staff of economists investigating cases, and advising on competitive issues ranging from effects of provider consolidation to reverse payment settlements in the pharmaceutical industry. She has testified on competition issues to both houses of Congress and in federal court, and advises companies, government agencies, and nonprofits on a variety of issues including antitrust matters, strategic decisions, and public policy.
Dafny has an undergraduate degree in Economics from Harvard College and worked as a consultant with McKinsey & Company before earning her PhD in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
